> Synopsis : 

“I was looking at some videos on Internet and I noticed that some of these were cancelled day after day because they protested against something. As they disappeared, I began to download them to save their message from the forgetting and to make an editing. By saving and broadcasting their message, I realize, in a way, what those anonymous directors wanted.”

With all these home-made videos, interviews, Dominic Gagnon draws, in an odd editing, a paranoid and schizophrenic portrait of the American Dream. He composes a strange picture, of some anonymous, disappointed, angry, who are denouncing the same system they use.

“When everything will be going wrong, when the repression will be really effective, all these documents, all these informations on the Net, will disappear. They will cut us off to prevent us from understanding.

DOMINIC GAGNON

Réalisateur, installateur et performeur actif sur la scène internationale, Dominic Gagnon considère la création comme technique de mesure du sans mesure ou comme discipline du chaos.

Depuis 1996, il fait des représentations publiques d’image en mouvement, exécute des travaux sonores, bâtit des installations et crée des performances dans différentes galeries, de nombreux festivals et biennales à travers le monde. On a pu voir son travail, entre autres, à La biennale d’Architecture et des Médias de Graz, à la biennale de l’Image en Mouvement de Genève, à la XXème Manifestation Internationale d'arts vidéo et nouveaux médias de Clermont-Ferrand, au centre d’art contemporain de Seattle (COCA) et aux festivals de performance TIPAF Winter Event (Taiwan), « The Future of Imagination » (Singapore), Asiatopia (Thaïlande) et Corporeal Heat (Boston).

Artiste à l’engagement total, Dominic Gagnon a produit et réalisé plus de dix films et vidéo documentaires et expérimentaux dont plusieurs ont mérité des prix nationaux et internationaux - Premier prix à Videoex (Zurich), Plaque d’or au Festival international de Film de Chicago (Intercom), Prix Claude-Jutra (Qc). En 2004, la cinémathèque québécoise de Montréal lui accordait une rétrospective intégrale (film, vidéo, installation et performance).

Dernièrement, il a exécuté plus d’une vingtaine de performances et d’interventions remarquées à travers le monde dont certaines en collaboration avec l’artiste Julie-Andrée T, le réalisateur Robert Morin et le collectif d’intervention Au travail / At work dont il est le fondateur.

RIP IN PIECES AMERICA a notamment été diffusé au festival Cinéma Du Réel 2009.
